Shop Talk Tuesday: The New Boardroom

With the impending launch of The Marketplace, we’ve naturally been making PR plans.  At our first meeting, our PR whiz Lori immediately told us we needed head shots and more photography for the website and media page.   Ugh.  One, I really dislike being photographed.  Two, when our team gets together every two weeks, we meet at my kitchen island, which is not exactly a boardroom.  I had moments of panic…should we try and do the photo shoot somewhere else?  Would we seem less serious, less “legit” if we’re shown working around that island?

Making big decisions around the island!

But then it occurred to me:  a lot of fantastic, amazing things happen around kitchen tables and islands.  How many millions of dollars have been raised for organizations because of fundraisers planned at someone’s kitchen table?  How many business plans have been written there?  How many seeds of a business have been sown there?  Many, many, many!  That kitchen island is a totally productive place.  It’s the new boardroom – Yahoo and their no telecommuting policy be damned!

The notion that one has to go somewhere in order to work at something important, or generate an important idea, or have an important meeting is crazy!  A Fresh Bunch is living proof of this – our bunch of designers are from all over the world, and working mostly from home, they churn out fabulous work, meet deadlines, and collaborate on big ideas.

And so, I present to you my kitchen island, aka, the AFB boardroom, as well as the cast of characters who occasionally wander into meetings.

Here’s to the new boardroom and the great things that happen there!  What does your boardroom look like?  Send us some snaps at submissions {at} afreshbunch {dot} com and maybe we’ll feature it here.

XOXO –
