Happy Earth Week!

We’re kicking off Earth Week by focusing on Recycling and Repurposing, specifically in pattern designs.

Today, we’ll showcase a couple of lovely patterns designed by Anna Bondoc…

Both of the above patterns were created by hand and then translated into a digital medium.

Here’s an excerpt from the Anna Bondoc website, describing the fascinating process of how her designs are created…

“Unlike most pattern artists who work in ink, paint, watercolor, or computer graphics, Anna works exclusively in paper.  Wielding her X-acto knife as a pen, she cuts motifs repeatedly into richly colored, textured paper.  She glues additional paper layers, designing and cutting as she goes.  The process lets Anna infuse each piece with great detail, dimension, and texture.  As a bonus, the shapes left behind on her cutting mat give Anna instant fodder for new designs.  We like to think of it as ‘recycling by design’.”

We are blown away by Anna’s handiwork and we love how organically her pieces evolve through the process!
