“This was picture taken with my computer from my workstation. It’s a small corner with my laptop, papers, pens and other stuff I need, in our living room in Dresden, Germany.”

Jenny:  There is so much to say about Petra!  When you see her work, you just smile.  The patterns feel fun, and kind of like they’re winking at you a bit – letting you in on a laugh.  The pipe pattern “Carl”(below) is a perfect example of this.  It’s so fun – Benedict Cumberbatch of the tv series Sherlock needs this print on something, don’t you think?  To line a coat with?  Or as a pillow cover?  Read on for more about Petra, she’s one of our wonderful international members.

AFB:  What’s your Favorite Project you’ve worked on with AFB?

Petra:  I think the my favorite project will always be the AFB Art Marketplace. I like designing patterns the most & the Art Marketplace motivates me a lot in that area. The Art Marketplace gives life to some old patterns that haven’t gotten attention before and inspires me to make a lot of new patterns.

AFB:  Design(s) Your Most Proud of that you’ve done for AFB to-date?

Petra:  If I’m not proud of a design, it won’t see the light of day.  So I am always proud of everything I submit!  Though recently I am very proud of my patterns I’ve designed for the Art Marketplace. Just designing with A Fresh Bunch is a huge step in my career and I am really excited about it!   As a Finnish designer, it’s great to have a connection to the pattern design world in the United States through A Fresh Bunch.

More About Petra

AFB:  Do you have a Favorite Celebration?

Petra:  Right now, I live in Germany away from my home country of Finland and that makes me especially miss Finnish celebrations. Next up in the Finnish Holidays is Juhannus, which celebrates summer and light. It’s a holiday filled with flowers, swimming, singing, dancing, friends and laughter. We also burn a big bonfire near the lake, which makes it a very fun and inspirational holiday all together.

“Me, celebrating Juhannus, my favorite Finnish holiday.”

“Here I am celebrating Juhannus with Friends. I’m on the right with my head turned–not the best picture of me, but gives you a glimpse of our festivities.”

“During my summers in Finland I collect flower bouquets from the yard of our summer house or from the forest near the summer house. I always like to document them for inspiration, of course!”

“This is an early picture of my workstation in our living room. This was taken when we had just moved here, so now it’s more messy and the pinboard is filled with pictures and color palettes for inspiration.”
